A Corner

Nothing elegant or sophisticated.  Just a simple, quiet space to call my own, where the kids gather around to play or share their own thoughts or just to pop in for a moment.  I hold the moments in this little corner close.

Dollar composition books are easily transformed with some kraft paper, alphabet rubber stamps, and glue.  Simple labeling using typeset stamps graces the covers: the thoughts, in the library, at the sewing table, the hours...

Scripture memory cards from Emily at Jones Design Company.

While you're at the cutting, gluing, and stamping, make a small one for the kids.

I'm typing this post through what I hope are some real, lasting contractions.  Pray my friends that this baby boy comes soon.  Today would just be nice.

Lessons

The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera. ~Dorthea Lange
(quote found at Shutter Sisters, one of my new favorite sites)

My due date has come and gone, and now we wait.   We've lived here before in the long wait for new life where the bank account slowly drains but the small moments fill to the brim.  With Dad home, time is abundant.  And we watch in the waiting and learn how to see, savor, and suck the marrow out of the beauty he bestows on our days.   Someday my words will return, and now I am happy to take lessons.  To learn the small beginnings of wonder that leads to worship.

Seeing beyond the fashion disaster and fear of the self portrait to the belly that (most likely) will be the last, to the gift of a child we thought we lost, to the blessing of a life planned before time.  (Framed poetry free at Dear Lillie, a quote for every month of the year.)

The Master Designer was at work in lights and shadows and fog and tiny little geniuses in the night.

Letting them make their mark.  My journal is a safe place to hide their art, their love.  Note the date and treasure the gift.

Child's Play

Perfect homemade, naturally dyed playdough from a guest post at Skip to My Lou.  Deliciously rich blueberry!

Fantastic idea for sand play from Creative Play for Your Baby:  Y-shaped twigs, toilet paper rolls, and sand.

Sancta Simplicitas: Now

"Just how exactly did you get that rope over that limb."
"We used a bow and arrow, tied the rope to one end, and shot it up and over the limb."
"Genius."

Sancta Simplicitas: Taste

My newest delight: afternoon tea. (thanks to LL Barkat and Rumors of Water)

Just the way my mom comforted me.  Perfection.

Completely from scratch by the Dancer: Mocha cupcakes.

Breakfast cake fit for an Incarnation morning celebration.

Comfort food straight from my dad.  Better than perfection.  Cheese grits, y'all.

Sancta Simplicitas: Home

My soul sighs.  We're home.   Snuggling in our beds.  Enjoying the garden.  Exploring our own town as though it is our first time here.  Everyday is an opportunity to discover something new.  A search for helicopters-planes (a one word creation with a sharp rise in intonation at the end by Little Bug, whose new name, I think, will be The Pilot) led us to some amazing discoveries.

In this hanger, we found of whole group of folks restoring Cobras, something the Navigator saw through these bars and from afar.  They warmly invited us in to watch their work.

An urban sustainable farm complete with a tilapia pond, beehives, and a Chilean chicken that lays green eyes was tucked away right next door to the small airport.

A walk through a cemetary dating back to the 19th century lends itself to some interesting history discussions and hunts for the oldest tombstone.

The very bricks his Nana and Papa walked as students...and where they fell in love.

I now have a Kindle, a gift from my mom!  Waiting for my husband to arrive after midnight, the cool of the night and my Kindle kept me company. Ahhhh, home.
